My name is Lois Turner and I am a Course Administrator for Education for the Faculty of Health, Social Care and Education.
As Course Administrator for both Undergraduate and Postgraduate students, I manage the day to day tasks of course administration, answering student and academic queries. I organise master classes using Turnitin and arrange and attend SSLC meetings.
The most enjoyable part of my role is the interaction with other staff and Education students. My role is very varied and no one day is the same. Sometimes I am setting up submission classes on Turnitin and sometimes I am taking minutes for meetings. I really look forward coming to work as I work within a very friendly team, which makes my work all the more enjoyable.
My job as Course Administrator is important to the success of the students in the Faculty. We support students by providing them with classes on Turnitin and offer support during their submissions and other aspects of study. During stressful and busy times, our support is key in getting work in on time. We not only support students but we also support Academics with organising meetings, taking minutes and keeping on top of other administration work.
One of my proudest moments of whilst being at ARU is completing my BA (hons) Management Degree and being able to maintain a good work life balance. I have two small children at home and feel very fortunate to have a job that provides me the opportunity to work to meet their needs as well as my own.
When I had children, I thought that having a career and certainly having the chance to further my education whilst raising a family was going to be impossible. But a balance between working and looking after a family can be achieved. With a lot of organisation and motivation, I am doing an interesting worthwhile job and feel I am setting a good example to my children in the process.
