#OurPeople, Professor Lucy Bland spoke on BBC Radio 4’s ‘Woman’s Hour’ last week. Professor Lucy Bland of Anglia Ruskin University shed light on an under-reported chapter of 20th century social history, when hundreds of thousands of black GIs were stationed across the UK during WW2. Many had relationships with local women and some had children but, due to US laws at the time, they were usually refused permission to marry. Lucy is a social and cultural historian specialising in late 19th and 20th century British gender history, the history of race relations, and the history of sexuality. She's also a member of our Labour History Research Unit. To find out more about Professor Lucy Brand, visit: arul.ink/lucy-bland
