We’re #ARUproud of our academic, Dr Thomas Keeble, who is one of the first cardiologists in the UK to perform pioneering heart surgery, using a rapid-cooling technique. The life-saving surgery was carried out at The Essex Cardiothoracic Centre (CTC) on a 50 year-old heart attack patient. Dr Thomas Keeble, who has a dual role as a consultant cardiologist at CTC and as a Senior Research Fellow at our Faculty of Medical Science, was part of the first UK clinical team to use ‘Cooling’, or Therapeutic Hypothermia (TH). This is a technique whereby the body’s internal temperature is reduced to minimise swelling and damage caused to the heart muscle following a heart attack. Read the full story here:
