Congratulations to Bill Thompson who received his honorary degree in this morning’s Chelmsford ceremony. Bill Thompson is a writer, journalist and digital pioneer. Having had his first experience with computers – an Acorn Atom – in 1981 during a module at the University of Cambridge, he went on to write for Computer Science magazine and The Guardian as he developed his career in computing. In 1996 he became head of The Guardian’s New Media Lab, overseeing the launch of The Guardian website and The Observer site. Currently Head of Partnership Development at the BBC’s Archive Development Projects, he will receive the award of Doctor of Arts. He is a Trustee of the Cambridge-based Britten Sinfonia, and a board member of the Writers’ Centre in Norwich. With a close affinity to our region, he will be an excellent role model for our students. We are delighted to welcome Bill Thompson to our Anglia Ruskin community!
