Our very own Dr Lyndsay Baines, Course Leader, M.Sc. Global Military Veteran & Family Studies, keeps making headlines as she travels the world finding ways to support military veterans and their families, as well as vulnerable groups in regions wrought by conflict. Recently she’s visited The Indian Red Cross Society, Gujarat, India, on behalf of allied forces who contribute to the mission. Due the recent famine amongst the farming communities, people from the rural areas are moving into the city to look for work. In addition, India has a growing elderly population who need additional support and cannot always be cared for by their families. Dr Baines was met by the most senior resident of the Senior Citizen Home and spent the afternoon listening to the stories of residents who had lived through British rule, Independence and the recent commercialisation on India. In common with seniors around the world, the residents felt the need for more companionship, spoke of the need to feel useful again and not be a burden to their families. They also requested music and arts and crafts groups. Check out some photos from the visit below: #OurPeople #ARUproud
