#ARUready tip 8: Take care of yourself! The UK is a healthy place, but there are some things you should do to ensure your wellbeing: • If you have any medical conditions see your doctor before you travel and ensure you have enough medication to last until you can register with a UK doctor. • Get a medical check-up before leaving as you may be charged for medical treatment of any illness you already have when you enter the UK. • Check to see if you are covered by your own medical insurance while you are in the UK. If not, you should look into getting private insurance (getting it in your own country is normally cheaper) • At present all students are entitled to free medical treatment at a doctor’s surgery of hospital for any new conditions while they are staying, provided their course is longer than six months, they are from an EU country or from a country with a reciprocal agreement with the UK. • You will be given information when you arrive in the UK about registering with the NHS. Your stay should be a healthy and fun one, but it is always best to be prepared. It takes the stress out of life!
