What do final year students start thinking about? Rhea starts to think about her five-year ambitions: "For any third year, the future can be a scary concept. You have that feeling as you head into your final semester or trimester that now you need to plan out the rest of your life. As I search for graduate schemes and internships, I think about where I want to be in five years’ time. A time that is not that far away that it feels impossible to fathom, but it’s also not too close that I need to apply too much pressure to myself. I found the best place to start was to think about what I’m good at. By giving us positions like ‘team leader’ in task-based modules, my course helped me develop leadership skills and confidence in my ability to delegate and treat a team fairly. I know that right now, I would like to be a digital marketing analyst where I have the chance to study human behavior and find ways of targeting ads without breaking personal privacy rights. After some thought I have made a list of what else, as well as the sector, is important to me to find in a career: 1. I hope to be working for a firm that is economically friendly, has equal pay for all employees and is a job I can thrive, and importantly, progress in. 2. I want to be able to bring change in the work I do and help find solutions. 3. I love numbers; so I want the chance to produce statistical models that would help understand what consumers need. 4. I want to be able to travel to different places and be able to build cultural experiences into my life and work. 5. I would like a chance to work with a charity for a cause I believe in. In five years, wherever I am I want to be happy and content with everything in my workspace and personal life. For the bigger picture, of course, I have long-term dreams too: 1. I want to have an impact on the world in some way. 2. I still want to have and dedicate time to my passion for dance, and have time to create a dance studio or to teach people how to dance. 3. My biggest goal is to save money so I can build my parents their dream home to retire in where they can be happy." #ARUProud #WomeninSTEM #AngliaRuskin #computing #studentblogger #chelmsford
