“During lockdown we’ve tried to be more self-aware of how we’re feeling. As momentous occasions have passed us by, we think about how that impacts our mental health. People have had birthdays, weddings, births, funerals and even graduated – life keeps moving. Just as these events mark defining moments in life, choosing a university will affect the rest of your life too, which is why it's so important to take time to check in with yourself and look after your mental health as a student. Transitioning and getting settled can be overwhelming, but there are things that you can do to help give you some peace of mind and help you keep moving forward. 1️⃣Take breaks Staring at a computer screen and overworking yourself are two things that can feel productive at times, but can also be your worst enemy. A lot of signifiers of your mental health, are physical: tiredness, low moods, and headaches. It’s important to take breaks and to listen to your body. Avoid just switching from one screen to another – the days I take time away from technology leave me more refreshed. Give yourself time to rest. Just for five minutes; meditate, take a stretch, go for a walk, read, cook, dance... the possibilities are endless! 2️⃣Learn to prioritise and time manage When you have a mountain of things you need to get done, it can be overwhelming and a big contributing factor to a lot of students’ stress. Not to sound dramatic, but learning to prioritise tasks and to manage your time effectively is a life skill! 3️⃣Talk about the decisions you’re making Seek support from family and friends, or in the ARU Facebook group. Take time to vent or ask for advice. You aren’t alone making these choices and there might be other people asking the same questions or needing the same kind of support. 4️⃣Engage with us! Getting involved with your university via social media is a great way to feel connected and to find support. ARU’s Facebook group for offer holders is the perfect place to meet other students, as well as Student Ambassadors like myself!” -Zoe, BA (Hons) Drama and English Literature #ARUProud #AngliaRuskin #AngliaRuskinUniversity #MentalHealthMatters #WellbeingTips #UniversityLife

‘I can’t stress this enough... if you need someone to talk to, go to your PDP Tutors or a lecturer you feel comfortable with. Today I spoke to one of my favourite lecturers about how I was feeling/coping right now- not even just with the work but in general. The time and effort she has put in to reassure me and speak to me after one of the online lectures means so much. Even just to have someone to chat to, even if you dont discuss your issues, me and my lecturer had a general discussion and she ended up making me smile and laugh during the conversation. Lecturers really are the best people, they really do care and want you to be happy and do well. Regardless of if they’re your PDP Tutor or not, they stand up when you need them: not just in times like these, but always. I’m so glad that I have been blessed with the lecturers and PDP I do have. They’re like my Uni mums🥺 I appreciate these people so so so so much🤍” - @csi_student #ARUProud #MentalWellbeing #ARUCambridge #ARUTogether #GoingToARU #UniversityLife #AngliaRuskinUniversity

Happy Monday all! We're kicking off the #ARUPhotographyTakeover today with Liv's photos. Keep an eye on our feeds for the rest of the week, as our photography students take over our Instagram. Liv said: 'Returning to campus at the moment can seem daunting with the numbers of Covid-19 rising, but to be on campus this week and back to shooting images made uni feel normal again. It was great to play around with the new Canon EOS R mirrorless cameras. Thank you to all who let us take your portrait and great to see all the saftey measures being taken around campus at the moment.' "Forensic Anthropology seemed very daunting at the start but we’re now three weeks in and I CAN DO IT!! The physical face to face practicals of looking at the bones, rearranging them and talking about them is really engaging and helping my understanding of the course. I’m so pleased that we have been allocated and allowed four hours of face to face lectures to allow education like this to suffice. Covid, you won’t beat us!!! We’re finding new learning techniques everyday and we will come out on top!🤍" -Jade, Crime Scene Investigation student (csi_student) #ARUProud #ARUChelmsford #ARUCambridge #ARUPeterborough #CSI #UniversityLife #AngliaRuskin #ARU #ForensicAnthropology
